Meet the Team: Vanessa

June 23, 2022

Let’s get to know Vanessa a little better… our Aquatic Development Manager.

Q) How long have you worked at The Swim Factory?

A) I’ve worked at The Swim Factory for 13 years! Seven years from 1998 to 2005, and then another six years from 2018.

Q) What does an average day look like for you?

A) An average day for me involves checking that classes run smoothly, ensuring that staff are allocated to all lessons, updating our parents on their children’s progress, and assessing our little swimmers to see if they’re ready to move to the next level.

Q) What brings you the most joy about your job?

A) Watching the children gain confidence and progress in their swimming lessons.

Q) What are the three things you love about working at The Swim Factory?

A)

1. The people

2. The work – as it’s challenging and rewarding

3. Watching the kids progress

Q) Favourite class activity / game to play with the little ones in the pool?

A) I love watching our kids float!

Q) What’s your favourite sport?

A) Netball

Q) What’s your favourite hobby?

A) I love crafts!

Q) What did you want to be when you grew up?

A) I wanted to be a teacher or physio.

Q) Do you have a special talent or skill?

A) Yes, I have a certificate in horticulture.

Q) What would you choose as your last meal?

A) Definitely roast pork with veggies, gravy, and lots of crackling. Yum!

Q) Let’s talk animals. Do you have any pets? And what’s your favourite animal?

A) I love animals! I have two kelpies and three cats. My favourite animal would have to be a dog or a dolphin.

Q) What’s your biggest fear?

A) Getting old! Even though I’m halfway there.

Q) Who is the most famous person you have ever met?

A) When I was in London I met Rik Mayall from the Young Ones, and Ian McShane (from Pirates of the Caribbean – he played Blackbeard).

Fun fact. When babies come into the world, they’re generally quite acclimatised and readily accepting of water. Many may lose their sense of bravery in the water at around the age of one. Learn to swim with the Swim Factory ... we've been teaching for nearly 30 years and are passionate about teaching a skill for life.

Continuing with swimming lessons as the months turn cooler and the days shorter is just as important, even with competing recreational activities vying for your spare time and budget. The risks posed by drowning do not go away in the cooler months, and neither should the lessons, especially when indoor pools are available.
